Springfield City Council President Tracye Whitfield says she will not resign over allegations she violated conflict of interest laws.
A report released by the city last week accuses Whitfield of using her position to profit from city-owned properties without disclosing her role in a property development company she manages with her son.
Whitfield said yesterday she "misunderstood the rules" and never intentionally used her position for personal gain.
She also responded to Ward Six Councilor Victor Davila's request for her to step down, stating that she "respectfully and firmly" declines because leadership is about "standing in difficult moments" and accepting responsibilities.
