Governor Blasts Proposed Berkshire Gas Rate Increase

Berkshire Gas' request for a significant rate increase is facing opposition from Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey.

Healey says the utility company's proposal could not come at a worse time for families and businesses in Western Mass.

Berkshire Gas is seeking a rate hike of 18-to-23-percent, which would raise the typical heating customer's bill by more than 50-dollars-a-month.

The request is still under review by the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.
