A San Antonio TV station caught a boot and towing scam in the act.
The scam took place at a bus station in town. A spotter would watch families leave their cars, then rush over, place a boot, and call the towing company. Within minutes, a truck would come, tow the car, and strand the families.
State law dictates that you have 24 hours after the boot is attached before they are permitted to tow the vehicle.
When WOAI brought this to the attention of the police and state investigators, they decided to set up a sting.
