A Florida couple has been left stunned by $143-thousand cell phone bill after what they considered a “magical” European vacation. Rene Remund, 71, and his wife Lynda, 65, racked up the charges during a three-week trip to Switzerland. How the heck did this happen? Despite using just 9.5 gigabytes of data, they were hit with roaming fees averaging over $6,000 a day.

T-Mobile initially refused to budge on the bill, even after multiple attempts to challenge it. It was only after media intervention that the charges were finally waived. Meanwhile, T-Mobile notes on its website, “To avoid bill shock, check with your service provider before you travel to see what options are available.”
