Hampden County officials say a three-decade-old homicide case in Springfield is solved thanks to DNA evidence.
The Hampden District Attorney's Office held a news conference Wednesday to identify the person suspected of killing 24-year-old Celestina Perez, who was found beaten and strangled to death at Gurdon Bill Park in June 1995.
The DA's Office said DNA testing on Perez's clothing matched to a man named Joseph James Cerovolo, who died in 2013.
DA Anthony Gulluni said if Ceravolo were alive today, he would be charged with murder.
