20th Anniversary Of MA Health Care Law

Massachusetts is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its landmark health care law dubbed "Romney Care."

Governor Maura Healey was joined in Boston this morning to mark the occasion by former governors Mitt Romney, Deval Patrick, William Weld and Michael Dukakis.

The law helped expand access to affordable coverage in the Commonwealth and was the role model for former President Barack Obama's Affordable Care Act.

The chief architect of the law, former Governor Mitt Romney spoke at the event,

“Having spent 6 years in Washington, I have greater appreciation for what we did here in Massachusetts,” he said. “The political leaders who were part of this effort came to the job to get things done, not just to see what we can do to get reelected.”

Healey said 20 years ago leaders put partisanship aside and proved what is possible to get things done.
