A Pittsfield man is accused of impersonating a U.S. veteran for decades.
Federal officials say James D. Sommers started using an honorably discharged Army veteran's stolen identity as early as 1994 to illegally obtain thousands-of-dollars in Social Security benefits and medical care, and also reportedly had several convictions under the veteran's name.
Authorities said he was caught last month at the VA Medical Center in Northampton.
He faces up to five years in prison.
