Governor Proposes Change To Rape Statute Of Limitations

Governor Maura Healey is proposing a change to state law that would eliminate the 15-year statute of limitations for rape cases when DNA evidence is available.

The proposal comes after several recent cases were dismissed because charges were filed too late under current law.

Healey says advances in DNA technology justify the change and could help survivors seek justice.

If approved, the change would apply to future cases only, not retroactively.
