First responders are issuing some reminders about chimney safety after a fire in Agawam on Monday.
Firefighters were called to a home on Adams Street for a fire that started in the chimney and spread to the attic before crews arrived at the scene.
Fire officials say anyone who uses a wood-burning appliance should get it inspected and cleaned at least once a year, and to only use dry wood, not wet wood.
However, residents are urged to ensure the smoke detectors work and keep a fire extinguisher nearby in case of an emergency.
