Mercy Medical Center in Springfield is temporarily suspending maternity and newborn services in its Family Life Center as of December 8th.
The hospital cites significant provider and nursing staff shortages despite efforts to recruit and retain personnel.
It said it will pursue all options to resume safe, high quality maternity care.
In the meantime, Mercy Medical said it will maintain hospital-based care including triage and delivery services at Baystate Medical Center through a cooperative agreement.
