A 27-year-old Springfield police officer accused of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Connecticut is facing charges.
Justin Perez, a former assistant coach at Somers High School, was arrested Tuesday by State Police.
Authorities said the victim told the head coach who only found out after trying to convince the girl to rejoin the team next year.
Springfield police Superintendent Lawrence Akers announced that Perez has been suspended without pay for five days and that the Board of Police Commissioners, which handles disciplinary matters that may exceed five days, has been notified.
Perez meantime is free on 100 thousand dollars bail.
