Councilors Hear Pleas To Avoid Fare Increase

Springfield City Councilors have heard public input on a proposed increase in fares for PVTA.

The Authority has indicated a need for an increase in fares to deal with several years of under funding from the state.

However, City Councilor Marcus Williams says that an increase would be a disaster for a lot of people in the city.

Williams says that the elderly and the poor would be effected more than many others.

Williams says that State Lawmakers need to come up with more money rather than rely on fare box rates.

The fare increase is set to go into effect on July 1st.
