World War II Vet Overwhelmed With Valentines

“Major Bill,” a 104-year-old Marine veteran, wanted 100 Valentine’s Day cards from people all over to add to his collection of memories. William White’s wish was granted and then some! He received 70 thousand cards, letters, and well wishes from all over the world!

The World War II vet’s “Operation Valentine” campaign crushed its goal of 100 cards and the mountain of mail Major Bill has received is from folks in every state and a few foreign countries, too. Surrounded by his waist-high stacks of boxes from the post office, he says, “It’s just too fantastic.” His daughter said many thanked the Iwo Jima Vet for his service while others included memories of their own fathers and grandfathers who have passed on.
