Barkaya opened for business on Worthington Street on Tuesday. The traditional Japanese restaurant has fresh sushi, homemade ramen, and a full bar.
A grand opening and a ribbon cutting ceremony was held with Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno and city councilor Jesse Lederman attended the event to congratulate owner Chris McKiernan and the staff.
McKiernan said the restaurant will bring something to Springfield that no one else is doing: an “omakase” menu, meaning "leave it up to the chef" to dictate the customers' sushi experience.
